1930's social standards were seemingly so different in some ways, yet, were they really, compared to today? It felt a bit uncomfortable understanding why young Carrie made the life choices she did. Yet I questioned: would I have done any differently at 17 or 18 faced the same predicaments? Probably not!! :).Maggie Craig is a great writer with tremendous imagination, who creates real characters & life situations. Don't know why there aren't more reviews for this G&C series. I'm a fan & have read several. And as an avid reader of all kinds of novels & literature, while just like art, books & genres are subjective -- if you're into this historical period, while a ton of facts are not going to be thrown at you, you are going to get a feel for daily life and customs in a very deft way! As an American who grew up in a big city in the 60's/70's, I adore this. And I have British & Scots friends who tell me this is really what life was like for their parents.

Seemed well researched. Good love story. Liked the characters.
I bought this book for my wife to read, and she just couldn't put it down. In her words "The story was just so naïve as to be most rewarding. The story line is perfect, and it has made me want to read more of her tales. I can guarantee that whoever reads this book will enjoy it as much as I did.
